The Biedermeier style represents the post-Napoleonic period in Austria and Germany, around the early- and mid-1800's. The cultural thrust was for designers to turn their highly refined skills toward objects of everyday life, notably furniture and as seen here, chess sets. There are many examples to be found of the Biedermeier design; this set brings together some of the most pleasing and typical attributes of the style for a lovely reproduction.
