Readlang is an eReader made specifially for language learners. It allows you to import books, articles and webpages, and has a unique swipe-to-translate feature allowing you to effortlessly read texts beyond your current level. All your translations are stored, along with their contexts, for you to work on memorising them later.
Import articles to Readlang with the Web Importer. Available as a Chrome extension, or a simple bookmark, click this from any web page to import a plain text version of the article to Readlang. You can also input text directly or from a file, which can be the size of an entire novel.
The reader interface is clean and uncluttered, swipe-to-translate offers rapid translation of words or phrases into your first language, it works well on the desktop as well as on phones and tablets. Extra translations and definitions are available from the sidebar. Font size, style, column width, and colour can all be customised.
Every word or phrase you translate is remembered by Readlang, along with it's context, for you to practise later using flashcards. Words are prioritised based on how often they are used in the language you are learning, so that you learn the most useful words first. You can also star important words to override this. Readlang uses a spaced repetition system to schedule your learning, it ensures that you spend the most time on the words that you find the most difficult.
Flexible export options allow you to move all your words to other learning tools such as Anki, or Quizlet, if you'd prefer an alternative to Readlang's own flashcards.
If you agree that reading is key to language aquisition, that a spaced repetition system can help you learn faster, and that the most frequent words are the most useful to learn, then Readlang is for you.
