Conflict in the West African nation of Mali has forced hundreds of thousands from their homes -- many of them across borders into neighboring countries. In Burkina Faso, communities near the Malian border have welcomed the refugees, but their arrival has placed an additional burden on already meager resources. While Catholic Relief Services assists the Malian refugees with essential items, cash-for-work projects and clothes distributions, the families hosting the displaced also require assistance. In host communities near the border, CRS has given cash grants, ranging from $30-$45 per recipient, to thousands of women so they can meet some of their basic needs.
