My father was a bombardier in a B17, flying with the 483rd bomb group of the 15th Air Force out of Sterparone Italy between Feb 1944-Mar 1945. His crew was part of the 'Rum Hound' 840th Squadron. I had a chance to fly in a B17 like his a few years ago. He was killed while on active duty in 1950 in an crash near Gila Bend, AZ in a B-50 bomber. I was two when he died and knew little of him.

Viewers who like my video here might also be interested in reading my memoir of discovery concerning his life and death. It can be found in multiple formats at: smashwords.com and at the iTunes book store under the title Finding Fred. Eventually it will be available for Kindle at Amazon as well.
