Zimbabwe has gone through over a decade of political and economic turmoil. Beginning in the late 1990's, hyperinflation, poverty and political violence became the hallmarks of the beleaguered Southern African country. This divided and highly political environment gave birth to a new, and quickly growing movement of young spoken word artists, rappers and cultural activists who use their words as their weapons in the struggle for social justice in Zimbabwe. The documentary short looks into the dynamic cultural activist network, Magamba, and how it is is pioneering new ways of opening up democratic space and building a new generation of socially engaged urban artists. It features interviews, footage, songs and live performances that demonstrate the creativity and originality of Magamba's projects and their lasting impact in Zimbabwe.
