A dramatic start to a snooker championship began on the night of 30th April, 1982, with Steve Davis, defending the coveted Embassy World Professional Snooker title. By 11 o'clock the following morning, after eleven gruelling tension-filled frames, it was all over for the out-going champion. And by the end of round one, three former World champions were also out of the running.
All the suspense and mounting excitement of this spectacular three-week event are captured here -- century breaks, brilliant potting, the controversy and humour, culminating in a triumphant climax for Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins who walked away the proud winner of an outstanding series.
