Our mission is to become more engaged in and connected with the local community and mold the institution to develop an educational model that is community-based.

The CEL model has three principal components, with regard to its students and employees, made up of three P's:

- People of Integrity (e.g. ethics, leadership and character)
- Stewards of Place (e.g. serving the region, bolstering economic development, service learning, cultural activities, and global awareness)
- Professionally Competent (e.g. quality teaching, up to date scholarship, faculty mentorship, advising, and internships)

These three components combine to ultimately produce an atmosphere, not only of learning, but of engaged learning geared at connecting the classroom with the community and providing students with real-world, hands-on training with community partners. This is critical to the mission of a regional state university and the future of UVU.
