Using the Dictation feature in Mountain Lion works pretty well and I have shown how you can also use DragonDictate within the Mountain Lion. The mountain lion feature of dictation works very well indeed, quite Siri like. And I am enjoying using it. The mountain lion dictation works better in the applications where DragonDictate files so I will continue to use both DragonDictate alongside at this new mountain lion dictation feature.
The way that this speech to text works is that the voice is sent off to the server on the Internet and it is sent back as text. it works surprisingly quickly and I have not had to wait too long for the text to come back. It doesn't spoil the flow of the ideas when you are working with your dictation and it is an excellent addition to Mountain Lion.
I will be looking forward to autumn when this Siri like dictation will come to the iPad also. I think it will be only with iPad 3, but as I am getting iPad 3 soon that is not a problem. it could well believe that the days of the keyboard are numbered. At the moment you do have two do corrections manually with the mountain lion dictation. It is for this reason why I will continue to use DragonDictate as I am able to do edits with DragonDictate by talking to it.
I keep forgetting to double click the Fn key to get the dictation going. But when I do remember I am loving it. Sometimes I think I will only type a couple of words and then end up typing a few sentences. Then I think I could have been better to have dictated it.
