The Desert Fox!!  Rommel was a professional soldier and one of Germany's best tacticians. He extended a war in a region with less than adequate supply. The landscape and vastness of the North African Deserts played to his strengths. Of all of Germany's military leaders, he earned the respect of his adversaries through the cunning strategic moves as well as the treatment of POW's.

Perhaps the greatest military general of mobile warfare in WW2. As an icing on the cake, Rommel's Afrika Korps was never accused of war crimes.

I have some respect for Rommel in the army and Raeder and Donitz in the navy, despite their dark flag. The true professional soldier or sailor fights for honour and tradition, and not for political (specially socialists) ideologies. Rommel is relatively close to this, i think.

Rommel was a great man, and a great leader. He deserves more respect than he has. In my opinion, one of history's best people.
