The European Parliament heard from Sylvie Goulard, Commissioner-designate for the Internal Market. The Internal Market is one of the most demanding roles within the Commission. There is a new impetus for completing the single market in services, with the Dutch and the Hanseatic League pushing for progress.
Goulard also called for greater fiscal equality, she said that this was what President-elect von der Leyen was referring to when she said she wanted to reconcile the social and market issues.
She said that businesses were looking for affordable financing, less red tap, skilled workers, not strategies.
On competition she said that the EU has to be able fight against unfair trade and have fair access to other markets, aswell as being able to monitor foreign investment especially in relation to key technologies, in particular, in artificial intelligence.
