Some 200 students from public and private schools in Elizabeth gathered the citys marina to celebrate Environmental Day, the citys way of marking Earth Day. Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Environmental Protection Agency and regional environmental groups took students on a tour of the New York and New Jersey Harbor Estuary and its diverse wildlife, while also teaching about the importance of water testing and the cleanup of oil spills from nearby refineries. The program is sponsored by Future City Inc., a nonprofit group that also hosts an annual Estuary Day. (Video by Nyier Abdou/The Star-Ledger)
