Afula is a developing town in the middle of Jezreel Valley which is a vast agricultural area dotted with rural settlements. Agriculture is not experienced by the Afula residents. Our project aims at creating a new kind of settlement which combines the qualities of a rural agricultural settlement with those of the bustling city; Rural + Urban = A RURBAN settlement in Afula. We developed a "corridors model" in which built-up areas along a corridor are separated by green belts, thus preserving the valley's landscape, and bringing agriculture to the porch of the dwelling units. Residents enjoy fresh food, social and cultural benefits. Film made by Architecture student Guy Shachar
