This poem was written by a student at Princeton Theological Seminary (PTS), Ariana Salazar-Newton. It was written for a class called "Crossing the Deep River." In this course students reflected on the imagery of the Jordan river in the life of the people of Israel during Old Testament times and modern African Americans. Ariana brings forth a Mexican American perspective to this metaphor. This was recorded/shared at PTS's "Intercultural Poetry Cafe: Remembering the Forgotten" on October 13, 2011. The poem was originally written in the Spring of 2010. Note, the poem starts and quality improves about 1minute in.
