Activists with Direct Action Everywhere Madison hold a mass Turkey eulogy at a local grocery store.
Speakout by Lawrence
Every year for Thanksgiving, thirty-seven million turkeys nationwide are unjustly killed. Most of them die horrible deaths in slaughterhouses. A large number of them have their throats slit while they are still conscious or are scalded to death. Most of them die before even reaching their first birthday. Make no mistake: these turkeys do not want to die.
The scale of this massacre is overwhelming. With advertisers and corporations selling holiday spirit, we lose sight of the suffering endured by each individual animal who lies dead on our Thanksgiving tables. Each of these individuals deserves better than to be killed to satisfy the appetite of someone else.
The gratitude and joy in our lives does not have to be coupled with the theft of joy from the life of another individual. Turkeys are victims of our actions. It is easy to leave turkeys alone and they would be very thankful for it. Join us in the animal liberation movement, and together we will celebrate life as we refuse death at our tables.
