January 13th, 2008 saw the first ever Wassail (meaning good health) to be held at the young orchard on Pickering Road, Hull, UK.

Wassailing celebrants join in with a traditional Wassail Chant:

"Stand fast, root, bear well, top,
Pray, good God, send us a howling crop.
Every twig, apples big; every bough, apples now.
Hats full, caps full, five bushel sacks full,
And a little heap under the stairs.
Holla boys, holla, and blow the horn!"

The apple trees to be blessed had been planted as part of a scheme to provide local schools with a minimum 5-a-day fresh fruit and vegetables.
