The North Carolina Zoological Park has had a hand in conservation research in Africa for over ten years. A new research project, located on the Cameroon/Nigeria border, focuses on the Cross River Gorilla, one of the most endangered great apes in Africa. Dr. Richard Bergl, the Zoo's Curator of Research, is gathering data on nest locations, scat composition and other factors in order to learn how best to conserve the 300 individuals still on the planet.
