The Quest to Jumpstart Our Omaha Economy

An Open Letter from Mike Gerst to the City of Omaha

I hope that this letter finds you well in this second month of 2010. Many have expressed to me that we need to stimulate our Omaha economy and promote rapid re-growth, right here in River City!

As a local business owner, and founder of Buy It Local Omaha

I, Michael Gerst, would like to declare the month of May 2010 as our citywide Business Blitz month. All Omaha consumers and business owners are in the best position to jumpstart our city by making a cooperative effort to restock, retool and renew our businesses.

We can make every dollar go farther here in Omaha, by making sure every possible dollar spent can be re-spent in the local Omaha metro market. This means buying from local retailers rather than national companies and online. Here are some examples of what you can do: * Purchase a home or refinance an existing home * Remodel your homes and businesses * Repaint that building * Go out to your favorite restaurants * Buy something from a local retail store

All of this creates work for someone, who now is able to purchase products at your business! Anything you do locally will trickle down and help you, your friends and your neighbors. Help Omaha, create jobs, and help yourself!

It is possible we can help other cities catch on you are a leader in this effort!

We are all in this together and every dollar we spend in our own home, businesses, and our own city will make a BIG difference.

Can you make a difference? Yes you can! Together, Omahas people are strong, but all of us must make an effort! We need your help during the month of May to do your part.

Lets get the word out to the public by TV, radio, e-mails, newspapers, magazines and by personal networking.

If you have any media connections, ask them and everyone you know to involve their friends, associates, and sister organizations!

Lets shake things up. Lets get all area businesses to help us, Buy It Local Omaha, and help make this happen!

We want to hear your ideas! Share anything you think might help!

Send this letter to any and all connections you may have. If you have and questions or comments you can e-mail me at mgerst@cox.net or call me at 402-289-1010. Check out the video on youtube (The Quest to Jumpstart Omaha)
