Atlanta Technical College saw evidence over the past several years that the unemployment and underemployment rates among men of color were skyrocketing out of control. To combat this disturbing trend the college used a grant from the U.S. Department of Education and Postsecondary Education to launch the Atlanta Technical College Institute for Males (AIM) in February 2009. The mission of AIM is to increase the enrollment, retention, graduation, and job placement rates of males at Atlanta Technical College. The program addresses recidivism, improves educational outcomes of post secondary education, increases exposure to cultural experiences, and fosters an environment of civic engagement. Most importantly, the staff provides emotional, intellectual, and financial support to participants.
