This documentary captures a quasi-experimental before and after study and its impact over a period of 5 years from December 2006 and 2011 by the department of pediatrics, BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur in collaboration with UNICEF Office of Uttar Pradesh.
The study was approved by the Institutional Ethics Committee of BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur . The study was undertaken in the 6 blocks of district Lalitpur, one of the most backward districts of Uttar Pradesh with a population of over one million and more than 30,000 annual births. It is one of the most underdeveloped districts of Uttar Pradesh with high rates of under-nutrition, and poor child health indicators.
The intervention comprised of counselling and providing support to these mothers by the MSGs. Both facility based and community based strategy were used.
The BFCHI counselors were trained by Breastfeeding promotion Network of India ( BPNI )'s 3 in 1 training course .The project brought path breaking on ground results showcasing the strength of peer counselling in elevating optimal infant and young child feeding practices in the district.
