Ernie Harwell had dozens of songs published -- some of them recorded by such artists as Mitch Ryder, Homer and Jethro, and B.J. Thomas.

Harwell wrote a song called "Tiger, Tiger" for the 1984 pennant race. Dan Yessian, a local songwriter and jingle producer, set it to music. Mark Bucchare sang it. The song hit local record stores and received play on metro Detroit radio stations.

"Tiger, Tiger" lyrics:

Tiger, Tiger baseball team, reaching for that pennant dream.

Tiger, Tiger baseball team, reaching for that pennant dream.

C'mon, Tigers, Detroit Tigers, my baseball team.

Soon we'll hear the cheers or boos,

Telling us if they win or lose.

Know for certain when they score,

We're gonna hear those Tigers roar.

They got tradition on their side,

Fantastic fans and hometown pride.

Greenberg, Cobb and Kaline, too,

Tiger heroes who come through.
