Rokudo-chinno-ji in Higashiyama-ku is commonly known as "Rokudo-san."
In Kyoto, for four days from August 7 to the 10th before a bon festival, in order to invite an ancestral spirit of a departed person to a house, the customs of calling at Rokudo-chinno-ji occur.
This is called "Rokudo-mairi."
The first day of "Rokudo-san" is very crowded with many people may go a "Mukae gane (welcoming bell)" to ring from early morning.
It is because the homecoming of immediate "Oshourai-san(the spirit of a departed person)" is wished.
