Today's Script:

It's December 19th, on todays show...

We get a look at the first 5 minutes of Bioshock...
Nintendo's TVii for the Wii U is coming soon...
and THQ files for bankruptcy...

Afternoon Shackers, I'm Ryan Calavano and here are your top stories...

Irrational Games has released a trailer of the first five minutes from BioShock Infinite. It's got a few spoilers, and lots of water, so don't watch if you want to wait for the game (or you get seasick easily). It's definitely eerie. The game play starts after Booker is dropped off at a lighthouse. Things get creepier as he ascends higher, culminating with a few seconds that have a "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" vibe to it. So before you launch the video, be sure you are OK with spoilers. I am not, so I am going to wait. (look behind me) Don't look Ryan, be patient!

TVii wasn't ready in time for the Wii U's launch (pretty lame if you ask me) and ended up slated to launch sometime in December, which indeed it shall. The video-on-demand hub will hit the shiny new console on Thursday the 20th, Nintendo announced today, giving you a few days to master it before your relatives come around at Christmas and complain about how confusing new-fangled technology is. TVii isn't a separate VOD service, rather a hub which draws video from existing sources. At launch, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video, and cable and satellite services will be integrated into TVii, with Netflix and TiVo to follow in "early 2013." Netflix and Hulu Plus are already on Wii U but as regular apps, without all the fancy TVii trimmings.
"After Dec. 20, you'll never look at your TV the same way again," Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime boldly declared in today's announcement. Oh, uh Mr. Fils-Aime, sir? We are all already watching most of our TV via apps on consoles. I feel like the Wii U would have been really great if it came out in 2006.

THQ is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The beleaguered company has seen tough times over the years, with uDraw being primarily responsible for many of the company's woes. In a prepared statement, the company says that its operations, including the ongoing development of its games, will be unaffected as the publisher has secured interim financing. Some noteworthy titles on THQ's slate include the upcoming South Park RPG, Metro: Last Light, Company of Heroes 2, Homefront 2, and the next Saints Row title. Damn, all pretty solid games. Jason Rubin, who joined THQ as their president in May, also commented: "We have incredible, creative talent here at THQ. We look forward to partnering with experienced investors for a new start as we will continue to use our intellectual property assets to develop high-quality core games, create new franchise titles, and drive demand through both traditional and digital channels." Sooo nothing really is going to change? I don't get how money works.
