In 1967, while working as a high school teacher in Palo Alto, Ca. Ron Jones created a project with his 15-year-old World History students in which they experienced the growth of a fascistic movement in their class, which was called "The Wave." Jones designed a movement, including a salute, a slogan and a secret police force. The experiment spiraled out of control and Jones discontinued it. He then revealed that it was a hoax intended to give students a direct experience of how easily they could be misled into behaving like fascists.

Through the US State Department's speaker program, the US Embassy in Tel Aviv brought Ron Jones to Israel to discuss freedom of speech, acceptance and tolerance. He met thousands of Israeli Jewish and Arab students and educators, and gave them a true lesson for life: don't be afraid to express your opinion, stand up for justice, stand up for your freedom!
