This is what the racers would have been faced with, had the planned Red Bull Road Rage for Mont Ventoux gone ahead, on Saturday 8 June 2013. On 29 May, the sous-prefecture (local authorities) of the department of the Vaucluse issued a non-favourable response in relation to the application to hold the event. As one can see, it was the correct decision for all involved due to the unacceptable safety risks the extreme weather presented, including torrential rain, 6°C temperature at the summit (excluding wind chill factor), winds gusting at 80+km/h and complete cloud cover reducing visibility to circa 30m.
Descent down from the summit of the Col du Mont Ventoux to Chalet Reynard. Start elevation: 1913m (Col du Mont Ventoux). End elevation:1421m (Chalet Reynard). Distance: 6km. Avg. speed: 33.9km/h. Top speed : 65.7km/h (GPS verified).
