RBF Consulting, A Company of Michael Baker Corporation, initiated a competition between engineers during National Engineers Week 2012. The Popsicle Stick Bridge Building Competition gave participants the opportunity to build a bridge using only 100 Popsicle sticks and Elmer's glue, with the goal of holding the most weight. Of the eight entries, the winning design held 212 pounds in the form of its designer, Rick Howe, P.E., Land Development. The best design was based on the ratio of the weight of the bridge to the weight the bridge could hold. During the event, team members gathered to watch as each bridge was loaded with weights until it collapsed.
