Today we are training kids for (1) jobs that do not exist, (2) technologies that have not been invented yet, and (3) for problems we do not know what they are going to be.
The real key is to make sure companies have the quickest way for people to learn -- or relearn -- how to excel at their job. Some companies go off to create courses based on the WOW factor hoping this will help employees learn what they need.
When comparing WOW vs. the content of value, there are three equations that arise:
1. High WOW Factor + high content of value = Respect
2. Low WOW Factor + high content of value = Forgiveness because needs were met
3. High WOW Factor + low content of value = Angry and frustrated individuals
Creating a high content value with a high WOW Factor course is all about putting yourself in the other person's shoes. This will allow you to find the most effective and efficient way to deliver material so students can get what they need and get out. If you do not do that, you could end up wandering around in the technology world forever; the technology may or may not apply to the purpose of what you are trying to do.
