I spent thousands of dollars on physical therapy and tried every cure on the internet and still could not get my IT band pain to subside. It prevented me from running for six months and I was about a week away from getting surgery on it. My surgeon insisted that I see one more PT before he operated on me and I begrudgingly acquiesced. He taught me this one little stretch that impacted my problem relatively fast. I've tried to describe it on running forums but it's much easier to just explain.
I mumble a lot, so I apologize if my babbling is incomprehensible to you, probably for the better! Just watch what I do, then repeat it as many times during the day that you possibly can!
