this particular demo was first shown at a conference in 2000, but here it's being shown at a 2004 (or '05) conference where Richard Marks (eyetoy inventor) was sharing his backstory around his extensive eyetoy research.
basically it's showing that Playstation Move was the next logical evolution for Playstation, despite some people thinking that Sony simply copied Nintendo Wii.
was what Marks was trying to do with the PS2 but didn't have the internal motion sensor tech back then to allow better tracking in terms of rotation and tilt, and only had a plastic colored bulb which needed a well-lit room to see (compared to Move's bulb, which emits its own light source and can change colors on the fly, therefore doesn't need as specific room lighting)
