Championship Match: Counter Logic Gaming vs. Team SoloMid (1) 21/8/2011 League of Legends
Match Summary Today is the last day of IEM at Gamescom, and the competition today has been fiercer than ever. With some of the most hotly anticipated matches of the tournament going on today, League of Legends fans around the world had something to celebrate about. This was especially true for North American League of Legends players who would have the opportunity to see a strange sight, an all American finals here in Germany between rivals Counter Logic Gaming and Team SoloMid.
After an electrifying third place match between two of the top European teams, Millenium and FnaticMSI, the stage was set for the championship match. With US$32,000 on the line, both teams would bring their A-game, much to the delight of spectators at the event and those streaming all over the world.
The pace of the game was a huge surprise, even with money and a title on the line. TSM played aggressively and showed exactly why they're nearly peerless when it comes to League of Legends. Yet despite hostile play between both teams during the duration of the first match, it wasn't until the 26:00 mark that we saw the defining moment of the first game. A swift ambush on an unsuspecting CLG allowed for a near perfect gank from TSM. After quickly killing four players, they were able to set in motion a path of destruction that CLG would not be able to rectify. With the score at 13-4, it was exceedingly clear who was taking this first match. By 37:00, TSM destroyed the enemy nexus, putting a successful first game behind them and leaving CLG to find an answer.
