Written as a country song, this downbeat and initially unsuccessful tune was recorded by Tex Ritter, Johnny Bond, and Wade Ray....plus this pop arrangement from Georgie Shaw. But because the ravages of alcoholism were not a popular lyrical song topic among mainstream record buyers, it was rewritten in late 1954 as "Let Me Go Lover" and became one of the most memorable ballad hits of the mid-1950s.
Transferred from 45rpm Decca promo 9-29374, originally issued on Decca 28838 - Let Me Go, Devil (Carson) by Georgie Shaw, orchestra and chorus conducted by Jimmy Leyden
