The North Pole Marathon 2012 took place on 6 April in -26C temperatures at the Geographic North Pole. Forty-one competitors from 18 countries took part in the race, popularly dubbed the 'world's coolest marathon'. Andrew Murray (Scotland) won the men's competition while Demelza Farr (Australia) took female honours. The new luxury clothing brand for ultra runners - UVU - was title sponsor of the race.
