The Vectra 3D imaging system was primarily used with clinical research studies involving breast surgery revision. It provides physicians with objective information and standard measurements allowing them to see how the volume and shape of the breast changes over time in very precise ways.
“The same concept is useful when you are looking at a primary breast augmentation or any other breast surgery,” explains Dr. Richard Baxter, a board-certified plastic surgeon based in Mountlake Terrace, WA.

The Vectra 3D imaging system creates proportional 3-D images of the area of a patient’s body they are interested in sculpting. Dr. Baxter notes, “One of the things we found out by using this system is that everybody is asymmetrical, there is no such thing as two perfectly matched breasts. The ability to rotate the image and look at it from different angles can show physicians that the chest wall might be different; there might be variations in the volume of the breast and subtle differences in the shape.
Understanding all of this up front is very helpful in planning the surgery.”

“We think in 3D but have always had to look at 2D pictures to do our planning. When you are just looking at 2D before and after images you miss a lot of the different approaches and those can be helpful in planning the surgery,” he adds.
