SURREALIST MANIFESTO REMIXED BY DAVID MOSCOVICH (AUG 1, 2013) 7:59
This video was used in performance on September 9, 2013 at Mind Roaming Journeys -- Surreal Performances with Text and Video at Bowery Arts and Science, NY, NY.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This video made for live performance is based on an excerpt from The First Manifesto of Surrealism by Andre Breton which concerns Breton's approach to writing surrealist composition. Moscovich's voice remixes and collages live, non-linear reading with a video projection of the same text, rendered in color. Video and live voice by Moscovich.
The text was reordered into 11 different permutations, so that each remix or permutation contains the whole of the text placed out of original order. It then was dismantled, disfigured, and then reconfigured visually, with remixes juxtaposing and superimposing upon each other for the video. The text is approached as if directly from dreams and the subconscious, meant to be read aloud in the precise spirit of Breton's original instructions on surrealist composition, with the visual remix of the video projected on a screen behind the reader. The original text is not to be read, only the remixes. The voice will triangulate the visual collage of the surrealist manifesto.
