ICSI (intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection) An in vitro fertilization (IVF) process involving a male factor diagnosis of oligospermia, where a single sperm is injected into a mature metaphase II oocyte. Based on good morphology and PICSI selection, calcium activation is than performed across the midpiece of the sperm. It is than carefully suctioned up into a specialized needle and assertively pierced through the zona pellucida and plasma membrane at the 3oclock position. This injection point is critical to avoid the disruption of the meiotic process. Once both membranes are compromised, the ooplasm is pulled back through the needle to surround the acrosomal head of the sperm. Both the displaced opplasm and sperm are than pushed back towards the tip of the needle to ensure a direct contact between the two gametes. The needle is slowly pulled back out and a successful injection is achieved with high hopes of a genetically viable zygote, leading to a healthy, dividing blastocyst receptive to implantation. best wishes !!
