The computer simulation—which looks similar to a video game—allows teachers, administrators, and police to train for crisis events in schools, including shootings. The simulation—which puts users in a virtual setting that is modeled on a middle school building—is designed to help educators and first responders test their in-person training for how to respond to shootings and other emergencies. The Department of Homeland Security will offer the program free to schools starting Nov. 1
