Energy Services of Pensacola, Florida's oldest and largest municipally owned natural gas distribution system, has been renamed Pensacola Energy. Director Don Suarez discusses the name change, the rise of shale gas, the work on PE's infrastructure, the changes in PE's customer base, PE's purchase of Gulf South's pipelines, Habitat for Humanity's reluctance to add gas service even though it may be better for homeowners, the opening of public compressed natural gas stations servicing ECUA, city of Pensacola and other natural gas fleets, the development of a natural-gas fired generating plant in cooperation with UWF; and the possible impact of exporting natural gas supplies to other countries.
