"War of the Worlds: The Scale of Battle" Team 1504

FIRST Robotics Team 1504, "The Desperate Penguins" is submitting this animation for the Underground Society of Animators (USA) 2013 USA Award for Excellence in Animation.

Team 1504 represents Okemos High School, Williamston High School, and Lansing Christian High School in the Lansing, Michigan area.

Fairytale

"War of the Worlds"

The original challenge stated, "Think back to your childhood, the tales of knights and dragons, wolves and forests, and many more that filled your movies, television shows, and bedtime stories." Our team interpreted this as not being limited to "fairy tales," but to also include other public domain stories. We confirmed that War of the Worlds was a public domain story prior to choosing it for our animation.

Summary

Team 1504 took the classic novel and radio broadcast, War of the Worlds, and gave it their own special twist. On Earth everything seems peaceful, but little do the humans know that they are being watched very closely by the evil iiko commander and his army from their home on Mars. After the invasion and a masterful assertion of power by the iikos, they learn they are far from victory, having made a "little" misjudgment regarding the humans. The story's "smashing" ending is that it's not bacteria, but scale that defeats the alien invaders.
