Animated map showing the movement of cholera across New York state in 1832, based on a report by Dr. Lewis Beck to Dr. Enos Throop. Black dots represent new epidemics; gray dots represent old epidemics. The disease emerges initially in Quebec and Montreal, and subsequently spreads via the St. Lawrence River, Great Lakes, and newly completed Erie and Northern Canals.
