Before we begin, I would like to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for my life, and all the gifts which I've been given in it, including the ability to make this extension. Your name be glorified, my Savior, even in something as small as this. Amen.

Saddle up, viewers! Amateur Extension Theater 2000 is blazing a trail through the dry and weary wastelands of Filgaia, and you're invited to join the adventure. Here's your travel-worn host, Alkahest Smithy. (Points to those who know what that means.)

Developed by Media.Vision and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, Wild Arms 3 (Wild Arms Advanced 3rd in Japan) follows the adventures of the idealistic Virginia Maxwell, as she heads out into the barren wastes of Filgaia. Meaning only to prove herself as a Drifter, adventurers who travel on wings like a migratory bird through the wasteland, Virginia soon finds herself drawn into a journey that will reveal secrets of the bygone ages, leading to conflict with rival drifters, false prophets, and a terrifying Blue Menace...

Ah, the WA3 overworld map theme. Certainly one of the finest in the series, and with a distinctive Morricone-flavor for which Michiko Naruke is well known. The unusually long track title refers to Migrant Bird Scoundrels, those daring men and women who travel the world in search of adventure, treasure, and ... well, mostly just treasure. For some reason, the English translation renders them as 'Drifters'. I kind of like the idea of working 'Migrant Bird Scoundrels' into a conversation, and with all the talk of 'taking wing' sprinkled across the course of the game's script... ah, but I digress.

Quite frequently at that! Why, like now, in fact. Did you know that there's typically a special set of adventurers in every Wild Arms game? Dream Chasers, Mercs, Drifters.... different titles, but almost always the same free-spirited, wandering product. Nifty!

And speaking of world maps, which I was before I digressed... Although each iteration of Filgaia across the series has always been in some form of decay, none have ever matched the desolation of WA3's Filgaia. It is a wasteland planet in the truest sense, where desert and arid plains have overtaken 90% of the world, and even the vast oceans themselves have been reduced to parched seas of trackless, shifting sand.

'Migratory Birds', then, is a splendid theme for traversing that very world. From superb guitar strumming to the series' iconic whistling, you'll doubtlessly find yourself enjoying your journey across Filgaia while listening to this timeless map theme. Such was the case for me, at least. See you next time, fellow Drifters and Dream Chasers!
