I saw GordonofSeattle's video "World War II America (Battle Hymn of the Republic)" and was quite impressed, particularly by the excellent selection of colour film. I also happened upon another version of the song, sung by the Soviet Army's Alexandrov Ensemble. I swapped the audio and added some more footage and voila. Same song, the US Civil War "Battle Hymn of the Republic," but with a Russian twist. The song is sung entirely in English, with some verses omitted. And yes, that is a crowd cheering in the background - perhaps suitably.

The original vid was a bit shorter, but this version of the song is also longer, so I added in some more colour footage. I'm afraid that, yes, some of it is repeated from the original clips.

In light of recent events: I did not use the Russian version to prove a point or send a political message, I just thought that it sounds really great. I am Canadian, and I support the US and hold Russia in suspicion. But I do know good music when I hear it, and I hope the provenance of the recording does not annoy anyone. Keep in mind that Russia was a member of the Grand Alliance which brought down the Nazis, and that's worth honouring in any case.
