Stanton Nelson, a senior piano performance major from Long Island, Kan., was one of 69 members of the KU Wind Ensemble performing the premiere of the symphony "In the Shadow of No Towers" on March 26, 2013, at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

The piece was written for the ensemble by critically acclaimed composer Mohammed Fairouz. The experience was the first of its kind for KU, as well as for Nelson.

Nelson credits his professor and mentor, Jack Winerock, for bringing him to KU. He will use his Carnegie Hall experience and the opportunities he gained as a student at KU to continue his master's at the University of Michigan.
