Dear Sangat Ji,

Yogi Bhajan gave us this healing meditation regularly practiced by today’s Kundalini Yoga practitioners, back in 1973.

The aim of this practice is to develop our healing energy so we can direct it to whoever our intention will focus on.

Healing energy is Prana, Chi, expressed at the frequency of the heart chakra.

The chanting of this specific mantra will activate the energy flow within our heart centre by vibrating the sounds Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So Hung.
Each sound is an invocation of a specific energy that we attract by resonating with it during the chanting.

An approaching English translation of these sounds could be:
Ra - Sun
Ma - Moon
Da - Earth
Sa - Infinity
Sa - Infinity
Say - Merging with Infinity
So - Personal sense of merging with Infinity
Hung - The Infinite in its vibrating form
The global meaning could be translated by: “I’m merging with the service of God.”

This mantra taps into the energies of the sun, moon, earth, and the Infinite Spirit to bring deep healing.
It also taps into Guru Ram Das energy, 4th Guru of the Guru Sikh lineage, powerful healer named in his time “The Lord of Miracles”.

Various ways to practice:
If the mantra is always the same, the posture, melody and breathing rhythm could be different.

Below are some links to see different ways of practicing.

In this video, we practice as this is done in group, in circle, like during our Tantric gatherings, for the healing of those lying in the circle while the practitioners sit all around sending their healing energy on them. The arms are up at the angle shown on the video.
This is the Active way to practice where energy is directed from inside out through the hands.

The Passive way to practice is widely popularized and the posture is to sit with the arms bent palms facing the sky as show on the videos below.
Change from Active to Passive when the posture becomes to difficult to hold while increasing gradually the time spend in Active in order to build up your nervous system resistance and heart chakra power.

On the last video, Yogi Ji demonstrates another way to practice it.
Find the one that suites best your practice of the moment.

Tune in to begin the meditation

To end the meditation, inhale deeply and hold the breath, as you offer a healing prayer. Visualize the person you wish to heal as being totally healthy, radiant, and strong. See the person completely engulfed in a healing white light and completely healed. Then exhale and inhale deeply again, hold the breath, and offer the same prayer again. Exhale.

To complete, inhale deeply, stretch your arms up high, and vigorously shake out your hands and fingers for several seconds. Keep the arms up and hands shaking as you exhale. Repeat two more times and relax.

Tune out.
