As the "beta" in the name might indicate, this is an unfinished curiosity. You've got an enormous square arena, entirely empty except for an enormous circular tower surrounded by a moat of lava, and a small watchtower located a short distance away. There are lighting effects, with both the central tower and watchtower casting long tapering shadows (you can see them pretty clearly at the start). There's no ammo except for the weapons you can pick up. And only one monster, a Cyberdemon lurking near the exit.

Levels with large sectors tend to tax the Doom engine, and this one is no exception. And it's from April 1994, so the level designing tools weren't perfect either. So this demo shows a lot of glitches. Some narrow slime trails (0:13), and some glaring ones (0:18). And when you get inside the main tower, with its spiral staircase, you'll notice a lot of Hall of Mirrors errors, and sticky walls that snag the player.

As a bit of architecture, the central tower works fine. I'm not pausing to show them off in this demo, but the views from the top when you finally reach it are quite good. And I even like the darkness of the spiraling stair - it makes you claustrophobic so you want to rush up to the top as quick as you can. But as a deathmatch arena this would be terrible, and according to the textfile that's what it was designed for. This level had two authors, so you'd think they'd have played deathmatch before and have some idea of the gameplay requirements, but it's not in evidence in this level.

Strange secret as well - you can't see it in this demo either, but if I hadn't quickly jumped back out of it the only thing you can pick up is a chainsaw.

Still, there was some potential for this as a single player level, assuming they'd have been able to get Doom to handle the requirements of the architecture. In the textfile they say they'd like to add "a medieval town with a few secrets" to this level, and if that had been populated sufficiently this might have turned into something great. But all we've got is this short single player challenge, with one minute of running and then a two-BFG Cyber kill at the end.
