As she professed in the first part of our interview, EMA's Erika M. Anderson is very particular when it comes to recording. Not so much when it comes to the gear she plays on the road. Sure she favors single-coil Fenders and has a trick for getting gnarly, controllable feedback by cascading varying distortion pedals — and yes she's all about "sweet rectifiers" — but the singer / songwriter / guitar-mangler isn't married to any particular piece of hardware.
Her band mate Leif Shackleford feels similarly. . . though he's fairly effusive about the Muse Receptor the group tours with to help fill out their live sound. We interviewed Erika and Leif on the eve of their performance at this past weekend's Pitchfork Music Festival.
