In a new study published in Nature Climate Change, we provide the first evidence that extreme summer rainfall may become more frequent in the UK due to climate change. While summers are expected to become drier overall by 2100, intense rainfall indicative of serious flash flooding could become several times more frequent. This study, led by the Met Office, used a very high resolution model to examine changes in hourly rainfall for the first time. In this video, Dr Lizzie Kendon, lead author of the reseach describes the key findings.
