Vets Beyond Borders is an Australian-based international animal charity that deploys volunteer veterinarians, veterinary nurses and other animal welfare workers across the globe to deliver quality animal health and education/community awareness programs where they are much needed.
VBB’s AVERT (Australian Veterinary Emergency Response Team) program has volunteers available to deliver prompt treatment to animals affected by natural disasters - like bushfires, floods, cyclones – or emergency animal disease outbreaks in Australia.
VBB’s AVERT program has partnered with Blue ARC - Animal Ready Community to share important messages on pet evacuation, first aid and resources for emergency preparedness.
Blue ARC is a community-led group based in the Blue Mountains that aims to support community resilience in emergency events through better awareness, preparedness, planning and response for companion animals, livestock, and native wildlife.
Blue ARC surveyed pet owners in the Blue Mountains, NSW, to identify their emergency preparedness and their intended actions in an emergency event, and found that respondents have strong bonds with their pets and were motivated to protect their animals.
Blue ARC survey is part of the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC (Cooperative Research Centre) Managing Animals in Disasters (MAiD) project of Macquarie University.
Thank you to long-time VBB supporter Animal Referral Hospital for providing resources in the production of this video.
