In our last video titled "Tip #15 Getting the Most out of Your Corn Cob Pipe: Weird Pipe Behavior" I asked what could possibly have caused my pipe to crack and swell. In the video I reveal the answer.

I'm impressed with all the correct guesses, and one of the best came in an email from our old friend Janet Beasley.

She said: "The bowl and stem are made of different materials and the expansion rates would be different - if the stem material expands at a greater rate this also could cause the cracking. Just like your ass and pants are different, your ass expands at a greater rate than your pants...henceforth revealing "cracking". Then again...it could be as simple as someone slipping you a popcorn cob for the bowl. Since I don't smoke this problem seems corny."

Janet was right in that the bowl and the stem do expand and shrink at different rates; and that contributed to the separation between them. The other crack was caused by the unsmoked tobacco that was left in the bowl in my VW van over a very rainy week. the tobacco expanded to the point that I could hardly dig it out. Go figure.
