Foreign Affairs Focus: Iran and the Bomb with Gary Sick

Editor Gideon Rose interviews Gary Sick, adjunct professor at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, on his contribution to Foreign Affairs' latest eBook, "Iran and the Bomb: Solving the Persian Puzzle." Looking back on developments in Iran over the last 30 years, Dr. Sick argues that the Islamic Revolution has actually had little influence on Iran's foreign policy goals, which, particularly regarding nuclear ambitions, are still dictated by domestic policies put in place during the era of the Shah. He suggests that a realistic policy would seek to contain—and not reverse—Iran's nuclear enrichment program, preventing Iran from making a "mad dash" to weaponize its enriched uranium.

"Iran and the Bomb: Solving the Persian Puzzle," which includes Sick's article, "Iran's Quest for Superpower Status," is available for purchase at
