"Ottaworth-MiroSab" is a channel devoted to the collection of poems by theologian, writer, poet and iconographer Miroslava Linda Sabbath (1926-2013), combined with piano improvisations especially recorded for these poems by amateur pianist John Woodsworth. Miroslava Sabbath was founding president of the Sacred Arts Council of Canada and has written several books on theology.
How poetry and piano came together: The poet invited the pianist to compose piano music to accompany her poems. The pianist, with the poet's approval, opted to do improvisations instead. For each poem, he read the poem silently to himself while improvising the music for the corresponding length of time. Later he recorded his reading of the poem over the piano improvisation, using a sound-on-sound feature on a JVC dual-cassette recorder. Eventually he transferred the resulting combinations from audio-cassette to MP3 files. Currently he is providing each of these audio recordings with a scrolling text of the given poem and uploading them to this site.
Watch this channel for more poems & improvisations from this collection to appear over the coming months.
