This video shows a mouse ventricular myocyte being paced by electrical stimulation to contract as it would in the heart using a "cell-in-gel" system developed at UC Davis. The system allows researchers to study the effects of mechanical stress on cells. In this case, the system was used to study the effects of mechanical stress caused by high blood pressure on heart cells.
